Minifigures MMO - 4Q 2012 Report (With Closed Beta Date!)

Funcom released their 4Q 2012 report, and there's a good amount of exciting news (Thank you to Sim533 for originally reporting this and the screenshot!):

The LEGO® project produced in Oslo based on the LEGO® Minifigure line has reached all milestones and is currently on schedule for release late 1st half 2014
• Working towards the next big milestone, “Bosses & Encounters” and expects to start a limited closed beta in 3Q 2013
• Team is now fully staffed and consists mostly of very senior and experienced developers
• Integration work towards LEGO® ID and other backend systems well under way
• Production on the tablet version of the LEGO® Minifigures game has started

I don't know about you, but this tablet version sounds interesting.

And yes, we now know the starting point of Closed Beta. Q3 2013 translates to July - September 2013. So it could start in either the Summer break, or at the beginning of school. Go ahead and mark your calenders!

In addition to this, it seems Funcom is making two mobile LEGO Games, but details have yet to be given.

I also caught this small tidbit about the MMO in the Funcom Reconstruction section:

The studio will continue to put all focus on the previously announced LEGO® on-line game based on the LEGO® Minifigure line

I see this as a significant piece of info, because it may tell how it will be played. You may remember in previous reports it was referred to as a MMO, but this line refers to it as an "on-line game". While a MMO is online (naturally), this could suggest that it will be truly online, as in, it will be played in a web browser. This could just be me looking at stuff too closely (), but close attention should still be paid.

This report also confirms that it is not made in Unity 3D, as it looks just like their other MMOs. However, there is a chance these new mobile LEGO games could use Unity 3D, considering how much it is already used for online and mobile LEGO games.

Wow, lots of info there! I'm a little miffed that the game is played online though, I like software games best. Thanks for the info and the commentary! I probably would have just skimmed over all the good stuff.

Blah. I don't know if I will want to play this or not. Doesn't seem too interesting.

are they strict about who they let into beta? I'm worried that I might be to old to be considered!

I doubt you'll be too old. LEGO games are for Kids, Teens, and AFOLs alike.

I just hope I can even find the page to sign up!

I am pretty sure it will like LEGO universe, since the layout is nearly the same as LEGO universe the only differnce is the envoronment. Looking forward for more news releases. The game ought to be interesting from what they say about it. Screenshots are also interesting. However, I'm scared that it won't stand up besides LEGO Universe, the game had a lot of possibilities.

That is, if the Minifigures MMOG beta starts in 3 weeks... I think the Minifigs MMOG will be less disappointing than the Chima MMO...

I wonder if this Closed Beta will be the same as the Chima, like having this code stuff.
