Pet Building Contest!
Hello, Adventurers!
Pets are great. They’re loyal, they’re adorable, and they’ll stand boldly at your side as you bravely charge into fierce worlds corrupted by Maelstrom. Which furry friend a minifigure chooses to accompany them through these epic quests says a lot about their personality. Travelling with a courageous lion may symbolize your fearlessness, for example, while a cuddly panda companion might show off your inner love of bamboo shoots.
But what if your personality requires a giraffe? Or an anteater? Or a platypus?
Luckily for you, we’ve got an ultra-special contest this month: the chance to build a cute, beastly, or fantastically exotic pet that will actually appear in-game! You read correctly – build a pet following a few simple guidelines (listed below) and send it in to the Creation Lab between August 1st and August 31st. If your four-legged friend impresses our team of judges, it could become a permanent citizen of LEGO Universe and be tamed by any member of the Nexus Force!
To ensure your pet is useable in-game, you will need to follow a few simple guidelines when building it. Don’t worry - they’re important, but easy to follow. Here they are:
1. Your pet must use the officially approved body core shown below:
To create the centerpiece of a body, you’ll need to attach two Plate 1x2 with Handle Type 1 blocks like so. The Plate 1x2 with Handle Type 1 brick can be purchased in-game from Bruno Underbite in the Brick Annex of Nimbus Station.
2. Your pet cannot use more than 50 bricks. If it uses more than 50 bricks, it may not be able to go in-game, and we’ll have to disqualify it!
3. Your pet must have a head and tail that don’t interfere with its legs or drag on the ground. It doesn’t matter how large either are, as long as you don’t go over the brick limit.
• Bonus points go to the pets that are balanced enough to stand up on their hind legs when built with real LEGO bricks! Seriously!
4. Your pet must have four legs. Even if it’s a shark. Those feet must be one of the official types shown below:
Feel free to mix and match feet from the official list as you like – just don’t add any new ones!
5. You must build a taming model to go along with your pet (used to create the taming puzzles found in-game). An example of this is the carrot players are asked to build when they tame a bunny rabbit. Using brick measurements, this taming model must fit in an 8x8x8 square.
• If you build a Pegasus, for example, create a taming model of a fluffy cloud! If you build a chimpanzee, make its taming model a banana! You get the idea.
6. You folks are too Imaginative to be copying! Our judges are looking for creatures fresh from your own Imaginations. Creativity is the key!
Use LEGO Digital Designer, your LEGO Universe property, or real LEGO bricks – as long as you snap a photograph, capture a screenshot, or upload an .LXF file of your companion and its taming model and send it in to your age group’s Creation Lab before August 31st, you’ll have a chance to win!
Finalists will be chosen and announced as quickly as possible, followed by the lucky Grand Prize Winner!
To ensure that the Grand Prize pet works with the game’s existing themes and mechanics, LEGO Universe reserves the right to make modifications to the design if necessary. Don’t fret – our Master Builders will do their best to preserve the original design whenever possible!
For an inspirational example of how to correctly use the body and legs of an official LEGO Universe pet, be sure to check out the How to Build Faction Pets article
posted last month.
This contest will also be the first to include dual age group rewards
! Three winners will be selected from each age group (12 & under and 13 & older)
. That means that instead of just selecting 3 winners overall, 6
talented contestants will take home cool LEGO prizes, and two pets may make it into the game
!
The 3 winners of each age group will receive these amazing prizes:
o 1 LEGO Exclusives Pet Shop set (#10218)
o 1 LEGO Creator Ferocious Creatures set (#5868)
o 1 LEGO Exclusives Medieval Market Village (#10193)
o Feature on the LEGO Universe community website.
o A chance to win the Grand Prize - your creature added to the game as a tamable pet!

Re: Pet Building Contest!
ANYWAY... Go Pet Building!
Actually, in Beta, they had a thing on the creation lab where you could build a pet! I guess people liked it so much, that they did it again as a contest!
